Our Toast

With the goal of practicing both my design and art skills in tandem, “Our Toast” was created out of a desire to create a comic that was able to maintain a consistent sense of visual and linguistic rhetoric throughout its panels. The comic takes heavy inspiration from other popular furry comics: “Duncan and Eddie” by @doginacafe and “I think I like you” by @yeentrash and @herutastic (creator handles are always subject to change, but I don’t see comic names changing any time soon). 

“Our Toast” aims to comment on how one can show love to another in different situations—by sharing consumables, by providing consent, and more through interactions between the two main characters—Honey the husky and Ginger the German shepherd. I dearly hope that, through reading the comic, you find newfound appreciation in the nuances of your own social life, you enjoy looking at the illustrations I have been able to create, or simply that you enjoy reading a short comic about two dogs who love each other dearly.

At the moment of writing this, I don’t have any explicit intentions to continue this project beyond what I have done already—I’ve learned a lot of skills that will help me in my future ventures in illustration, design, and communication, and I don’t see a concrete reason as to why I would continue this specific comic at this time. I will probably revisit these characters, settings, and themes in future works, just maybe not in this viewing context. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy the comic!
